Kampala is the largest and capital city of Uganda. The hills are covered with skyscrapers, beautiful buildings and a touch of green vegetation. With your 1 day Kampala city tour, you are able to visit the Uganda Museum which explores the country’s tribal heritage through an extensive collection of artifacts. You will also visit Kasubi tombs, Kabaka’s Palace to see the torture chamber for Idi Amin, Uganda Museum and Uganda martyrs Shrines in Namugongo, also Bahai temple.
Day 1: Kampala City Tour
You will be picked up from your place of choice either in Kampala or Entebbe for your Kampala city tour. Visit Kasubi tombs where the kings and royals of the Buganda kingdom are buried,
Kabaka’s Palace which is the official residence of the current king of Buganda. However, the reigning king chose not to stay here because the palace is haunted by bad memories only; it’s the place where his father was attacked from and has too much blood shed by Idi Amin who had turned the palace into a torture chamber.
Kabaka’s lake is Africa’s dug out largest man made found in Uganda. Kabaka’s lake is located about 5 kilometres from Kampala capital city in Ndeeba area near the Twekobe Kabaka’s Mengo Palace. The lake was constructed in 1880 under the orders of Kabaka Mwanga II who wanted it to enable him have quick access to Lake victoria where he would go to his other palace located in Munyonyo, swimming and fishing. More so, the lake was to be used as an escape corridor during the British armed conflicts. Visit Kabaka’s lake on your Kampala city tour and encounter one of the Kabaka’s historical attractive places and have an amazing experience of bird watching in the city as well as viewing the boat riders.
Uganda Museum which showcases African history cultures and treasures of Uganda in particular under one roof. The Museum has different sections including traditional music section with the traditional musical instruments, Archaeology section with the parts of Stone Age and Iron Age where you will be able to see the stone tools which were used very many years ago and also study the ancient and recent human past through material remains, Independence pavilion of science and industry, communication models, Ethnography providing the visitors with a scientific description of people and cultures with their customs, habits, and mutual differences. At the museum you will also be taught about so many other things like; Paleontology with the fossils aged about 20,000,000 years ago.
Uganda martyrs Shrines in Namugongo located 15km East of Kampala and is believed to be concrete evidence of faith the Uganda martyrs exhibited many centuries ago. It was constructed in the commemoration of over 20 Catholic and Anglican Baganda men who were burnt alive on orders of Kabaka Mwanga II between 1885 – 1887 for the sake of the Christian faith in Uganda. The Uganda Martyrs Shrine Namugongo is the center of a yearly celebration in honor of 45 young Ugandans and is one of the largest Christian pilgrimage destinations in Africa.
Bahai temple in Uganda the only one on the African continent built in 1951 which makes it one of the earliest Bahai communities in Eastern Africa. The Bahai temple is built on a Kikaaya Hill above every other landscape standing out from a distance and as you get closer marvel at the beautiful gardens surrounding the entire temple. It can be viewed from different hills of Kampala thus making it one of the rich tourist attractions that the city of Kampala has got to offer to its tourists.
Old Kampala National Mosque or Gaddafi National Mosque; where they will take you through the history of Islam. It is believed to be the biggest mosque in the whole of East Africa. This is the headquarters of the Islamic faith in Uganda and also doubles as the headquarters of the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council the organization which takes care of all Islamic affairs in Uganda.
Time permitting you will also visit other places of worship like the Namirembe Cathedral which serves as the provincial cathedral of the Church of Uganda and the diocesan cathedral for Namirembe Diocese, the first diocese to be founded in the Church of Uganda province, in 1890.andRubaga Cathedral the parent cathedral of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Kampala, the oldest Roman Catholic diocese in Uganda. It is the home church of Archbishop of Kampala.
